After 11g R2, it is called fast recovery area (FRA). FRA keeps all files related to backup and recovery. If FRA is configured all backup component are managed by Oracle.
Enable FRA:

ALTER DATABASE FLASHBACK ON;

Set size and destination:

ALTER SYSTEM SET db_recovery_file_dest_size = 10g SCOPE = BOTH;
ALTER SYSTEM SET db_recovery_file_dest = '+dgroup1' SCOPE = BOTH;

Set Retention Target:
ALTER SYSTEM SET db_flashback_retention_target = 1440 SCOPE = BOTH;

Once we have FRA configured, we can quickly recover with in retention period.
